Why should you come to the Colourful Crochet Stitches short course?
Maybe you have made items from granny squares or tried other stitch patterns in rows. You might have crocheted a throw following someone else instructions and colours. Maybe you’d like to choose colours for your projects but are not sure how to do so. You might have already done the How to Crochet for Improvers short course with me and want to move on. As long as you are confident with the basic stitches (double and treble crochet) and can follow a simple pattern, then you are ready for this Colourful Crochet Stitches. Whatever your reason, you’ll have so much fun trying different stitch patterns and colour combinations in each class. And after the course, you’ll have lots of ideas for new colourful projects.
I’ll also provide delicious homemade biscuits or cake and a variety of hot drinks. And if we’re lucky, the Being Knitterly barista (Mr BK), will be around to make some rather nice coffee!
How will you learn?
I’ll introduce you to the colour wheel and show you how to use it to put together colour combinations. You’ll dive into my pile of mini-balls and put together some different colour combinations. Then we’ll move on to the crochet. I’ll demonstrate each new stitch and technique, both to groups and individuals. The first few times that you crochet a new stitch, I’ll talk you through the process as you do it. You’ll also be given a handout with written instructions and charts for each stitch sample. Practise makes perfect, and this applies just as much to choosing colours as it does to learning new stitches, so you might like to crochet a swatch or two between each class will help too.
You’ll make lots of small stitch samples, starting with simple ones and building up to chevrons, waves, and spike stitches.
What will you learn?
You’ll learn to:
- Use the colour wheel to select yarn.
- Jazz up simple stitches with colour.
- Crochet chevrons and waves.
- Make spike stitches as well as follow written instructions and crochet charts.
In the first class, you’ll learn how to use the colour wheel to put together colour combinations. You’ll crochet some simple stitch patterns using familiar stitches. And you’ll be following crochet patterns with both written and charted instructions, so you’ll get lots of practice with these.
In the second class, you’ll learn more about the colour wheel. You’ll crochet chevron and wave stitch patterns. These stitch patterns are deservedly popular for blankets and throws because of the calming effect of repeating a stitch sequence and the fun of seeing the effect of adding the next colour.
By the final class, the colour wheel will be a familiar friend and you will be choosing colour combinations with consideration rather than guessing. You’ll learn how to crochet spike stitches then use them to create some stunning stitch patterns.
During the colourful crochet course, you’ll crochet many colourful stitch samples instead of a project. This means that you get to try out more stitch patterns and colour combinations with me there to help you. You’ll love having made so many colourful samples by the end of the course. And you’ll have lots of ideas for your own projects!
When does it take place?
