Meltwater shawl

Meltwater shawl

The interlocking pattern in the Meltwater shawl is inspired by the diamond window panes in the Gherkin building, as it is familiarly known, in the City of London.

The pattern for Meltwater is available to purchase here as a printed pattern or as part of a kit. Alternatively, you can purchase it as a digital pdf download from the Being Knitterly Ravelry store.

This pattern is available in two versions: there’s one written for those who knit left-handed as well as the standard one for those who knit right-handed.

If you purchase the printed pattern and would like the pattern for knitting left-handed please say so in your order notes at check out.

Description

The Meltwater shawl has narrow garter stitch borders, followed by a deep panel in the trellis lace stitch pattern. This merges into the solid diamond stitch pattern, before merging back into the final trellis lace stitch panel. A crochet cast-on is used so that the cast-on and cast-off edges look the same.

Yarn

1200 m | 1300 yds in a heavy lace-weight.
Some silk content will help the wrap drape.

Needles & accessories

Always use a needle/hook size that will result in the correct tension after washing and blocking the knitted fabric. Suggested needle/hook sizes are:

4.00 mm | UK8 | US6 (or size to obtain gauge) straight or circular knitting needles.
4.00 mm | UK8 | USG-6 crochet hook.
Cable needle.
