To do the beginners’ workshop, you do not need any skills. You may have never crocheted, have tried and struggled, or lack confidence with the basics.

To do the improvers’ workshop, you need to know how to make double and treble crochet stitches and make a traditional granny square.

Description

Crochet designer and tutor Nicki Merrall will teach you the techniques that you will use to make crochet blankets. These include making the granny squares, joining them together and adding a border. During the workshop, everyone will make a small granny square blanket. If you are a beginner, you will make a traditional granny square. If you are an improver, you will make a variety of other square motifs and use one of these for your blanket sample.

Granny Square Blanket for beginners

Beginners will crochet four traditional granny squares, join them and add a simple border.

Beginners workshop content:

  • Holding the yarn and hook while working rows of treble crochet stitches.
  • Working in the round, making slip stitches and changing colour while crocheting a granny square.
  • Joining granny squares together.
  • Adding a border.

Level:

  • You have never tried to crochet.
  • You have tried to crochet and struggled, or you lack confidence.

Granny Square Blanket for improvers

Improvers will crochet variations of the traditional granny square using the basic stitches in different combinations. They choose one of these square motifs, crochet four of them, join them and add a simple border.

Improvers workshop content:

  • Making variations of the traditional granny square.
  • Making flower petals from loops, picots, and shells.
  • Joining granny squares together.
  • Adding a border.

Level:

  • You can make double and treble crochet stitches and make a traditional granny square.

  • Tuition.
  • Yarn for samples and projects.
  • A crochet hook (for beginners only).
  • Patterns for the small granny square blankets.
  • Refreshments all day, a light vegetarian lunch and home-baked cake in the afternoon.

Please bring:

  • Notebook and pen.
  • 3.5, 4.0 & 4.5 mm crochet hooks (improvers only).
  • Lockable stitch markers.
  • Yarn scissors.
  • A yarn needle.

Lockable stitch markers, crochet hooks, and yarn will be available to purchase.

The Being Knitterly Studio is in a beautiful Edwardian house in Loughborough, Leicestershire.
